Welcome to KCC WIKI READS!
www.kccwikireads.pbworks.com
Here are a few basic suggestions
about how you can start using it!
This Wiki is open to all students and faculty, but it is intended primarily for students in KCC's Development Reading/Writing courses (that is, ENG 91, 92, 93, 04, and R). If you look below, you'll see many different links. Each link will lead you to what we've called a "pack." There are two basic kinds of these packs. The first kind features short readings followed only by questions based on the CUNY R-ACT. The second type--and there are a lot more of these!--features longer readings followed by sample multiple-choice, short-answer, and essay questions.
We have a few general suggestions about using these packs:
We also have some more detailed suggestions about using the packs, and these can easily be found in Getting started.doc (click link, then click download tab)
Also, please note that we have a few helpful links on our SideBar (click), or see right side of screen labeled "SideBar"
Good luck!

PACKS FEATURING ONLY R-ACT BASED QUESTIONS
Please note that these packs have "themes." This is NOT typical of actual R-ACT tests, but we think it will give you a clearer sense of how very different questions might be asked about one topic, such as "Education." Also note that all of these have ANSWER KEYS, so you can check your own score; the answer keys also have explanations, so please take the time to review them (even for the answers that you got right!).
Please note that there is a special pack which provides different perspectives on the KCC Reads text--Eating Animals!

PACKS FEATURING A LONGER READING AND MORE VARIED QUESTIONS
NOTE TO BOTH TEACHERS AND STUDENTS: THE DIFFERENT QUESTIONS THAT YOU'LL FIND HERE ARE SIMILAR TO THE SORTS OF QUESTIONS THAT YOU MAY ENCOUNTER WHILE DOING THE CUNY R-ACT, THE ENGLISH DEPARTMENT READING EXAM, AND YOUR PORTFOLIO PAPERS. HOWEVER, THE QUESTIONS ARE REALLY INTENDED TO HELP DEVELOP STUDENTS' UNDERSTANDING OF BASIC READING/WRITING ASSIGNMENTS AND ESSAYS THAT MAY APPEAR IN A RANGE OF KCC COURSES (SUCH AS PSY 11, SOC 31, BA 11, HIS 51, PHI 76, AND SO ON.....)
PLEASE NOTE THAT A FEW OF THE READINGS HAVE BEEN MARKED**. THESE READINGS ARE LONGER AND MORE COMPLEX THAT THE REST, AND THEY WOULD BE BETTER SUITED FOR CLASS REVIEW RATHER THAN INDEPENDENT STUDY. FINALLY, PLEASE NOTE THAT THE MANY READINGS ARE ORGANIZED BY THEMES, SUCH AS "RE-THINKING EDUCATION"OR "DIVERSITY," ETC.
